AI porn isn’t regulated. What does that mean for depictions of queer bodies?

The article examines the lack of regulation around AI generated pornography and how this affects representations of queer bodies online. It argues that as AI tools become widely accessible, users can generate explicit content with customized identities, including gender and sexuality, without oversight.

A key concern is that AI systems are trained on existing internet data, which often reflects biases, stereotypes, and limited representations of LGBTQ+ people. As a result, AI generated porn can reproduce or exaggerate harmful, unrealistic, or fetishized portrayals of queer bodies rather than authentic ones.

The article also highlights that popular porn categories already show strong demand for queer related content, meaning AI tools may amplify this demand at scale without ethical safeguards.

Another major issue is consent and control. AI allows users to create explicit images of bodies and identities that may resemble real people or marginalized groups, without their permission, raising concerns about exploitation and identity misuse.

The lack of regulation means there are few protections against misuse, leaving queer communities particularly vulnerable to harassment, misrepresentation, and digital abuse. At the same time, the article notes a tension: while AI could theoretically enable more diverse and inclusive representations, in practice it often reinforces dominant norms instead.

Overall, the piece argues that without clear rules, accountability, and inclusive design, AI porn risks deepening inequalities and distorting how queer identities are represented online.
