BREIN Takes Down Virtual Pirate Streaming Worlds on VRChat

In January 2024, Dutch anti-piracy organization BREIN identified and reported several virtual worlds within the VRChat platform that facilitated unauthorized streaming of popular films and series in simulated cinema environments. These worlds, attracting between 1,000 and 4,000 users simultaneously, were among the most frequented on VRChat. Upon BREIN’s notification, VRChat promptly removed these infringing worlds, adhering to its policy of responding to valid takedown notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). This action underscores the vigilance of anti-piracy groups in monitoring emerging technologies to prevent the misuse of virtual reality platforms for copyright infringement. (TorrentFreak)
