Denmark seeks to make spread of deepfake images illegal
Denmark is moving forward with new legislation that would make the sharing of AI‑generated “deepfake” imagery, audio, or video illegal. The bill, backed by a broad parliamentary coalition, aims to grant individuals copyright over their own face, voice, and image—effectively giving people control over how their likeness is used. Culture Minister Jakob Engel‑Schmidt said the changes are intended to protect the public from misinformation and empower individuals to remove unauthorized files. The law includes exemptions for parody and satire, and violators may face compensation demands or platform penalties. The proposal is expected to be drafted this summer, with formal legislative submission by late 2025 or early 2026, potentially making Denmark the first nation to implement such comprehensive deepfake protections .
