Ghana declares war on illegal streaming of pay-TV content

The report says Ghana’s National Communications Authority is launching a coordinated crackdown on illegal internet streaming of pay TV content. It frames piracy as causing major financial losses to the state and the creative sector, while also exposing consumers to cybersecurity threats.

It adds that a stakeholder committee led by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations is working with the Cybersecurity Authority and Multichoice Ghana to target illegal streaming platforms. The NCA emphasizes three harms: loss of tax revenue, loss of revenue to the creative industry, and increased consumer exposure to malware and phishing schemes.

The article also notes the NCA used the announcement to update the public on revised DStv subscription packages that took effect on October 1, 2025, saying the changes remain in force and were followed by a significant increase in subscriptions. It says the committee originally set up to evaluate DStv pricing will continue its work and engagements.
