Irdeto adds High-Frequency Key Cycling to satisfy sports rights holders
Irdeto has introduced a feature called High-Frequency Key Cycling in its cloud-based DRM service Irdeto Control to meet the stricter security requirements of sports rights holders.
Some key points:
-
The feature allows streaming services to frequently rotate encryption keys at the DRM level, shrinking the window for piracy risk (like key extraction or CDN leeching).
-
It works with existing video platforms, so providers don’t need to change their workflows to adopt it.
-
Irdeto Control supports major DRM systems (Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady), is cloud-based, serves over 200 customers, and handles more than 15 billion DRM transactions monthly.
-
The idea is that repeated authentication (because of more frequent key changes) disrupts unauthorized streams, degrading the pirate experience and pushing users toward legal options.
