LaLiga wants an 'anti-piracy shield' with fines and intervention without a court order in the regulation of IP blocking
LaLiga is pushing for stronger anti piracy powers in Spain and has proposed a legal framework that would allow authorities and internet providers to block access to piracy websites and services more quickly, potentially without requiring prior judicial approval in every case. The proposal includes faster IP blocking measures, financial penalties for repeat offenders, and the possibility of temporary service blackouts targeting infrastructure used to distribute illegal sports streams. LaLiga argues that piracy causes significant financial losses to broadcasters, clubs, and rights holders and that existing legal processes are too slow to combat rapidly changing piracy networks. Critics, however, have raised concerns about due process, freedom of expression, and the risk of mistakenly blocking legitimate online services.
