Lithuanian Regulator Clashes With Data Firm Over “Misleading” Piracy Stats
Lithuania’s broadcasting regulator, LRTK, is pushing back against how piracy data is reported by the UK-based tracking firm MUSO. According to a recent report by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Lithuania ranks among the EU countries with the most piracy visits per user—more than double the average. LRTK disputes this portrayal, pointing out that MUSO’s methodology is flawed: it inadvertently includes legitimate websites and fails to account for VPN or IPTV usage, thus skewing the actual picture on the ground. In turn, MUSO accuses LRTK’s claims of being misleading and has demanded a public correction.
