Motion Picture Association Steps Up Overseas Anti-Piracy Effort by Hiring Former Disney Executive

The article reports that the Motion Picture Association (MPA) is strengthening its international fight against digital piracy by appointing Thomas Limouzin-Lamothe, a former Disney anti-piracy executive, to a newly created leadership role. He will serve as Vice President for Content Protection across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA)

Limouzin-Lamothe previously worked at Disney, 21st Century Fox, and Microsoft, where he developed large-scale anti-piracy strategies and led multinational teams focused on protecting digital content. His experience in tackling online piracy and copyright violations made him a key choice for the position.

In his new role, he will coordinate with law enforcement agencies, technology companies, industry partners, and media organizations to combat piracy networks operating across the EMEA region. The position reflects the growing importance of international cooperation in addressing illegal streaming platforms and other forms of digital copyright infringement.

The move comes as Hollywood studios and streaming platforms face rising levels of online piracy, including illegal IPTV services, unauthorized streaming sites, and other platforms distributing copyrighted films, TV shows, and sports broadcasts without permission.

The MPA represents major entertainment companies such as Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, Universal, and Warner Bros. Discovery, and works globally to protect their intellectual property. Strengthening overseas enforcement is seen as essential because a large portion of piracy networks operate outside the United States and target international audiences.

By creating this new leadership position and expanding its anti-piracy strategy abroad, the MPA aims to improve coordination across regions, respond faster to piracy operations, and protect the global market for film and television content.
