“Once you have the data, you have to cooperate” – Windscribe CEO speak out against global threats to no-log VPNs
Windscribe CEO Yegor Sak has raised concerns over increasing global pressures on no-log VPN services. In a recent interview, Sak recounted being unexpectedly charged by Greek authorities for “illegal access to an information system,” linked to an incident in 2023 involving an anonymous user’s activity via a Windscribe server. The case was dismissed in April 2025, reinforcing the validity of no-log policies. Sak emphasized that retaining user data could compel VPN providers to cooperate with authorities, potentially endangering activists and whistleblowers. He warned against emerging legislation worldwide that seeks to mandate data retention, viewing it as a threat to digital privacy and freedom.
