Pirate Streaming Portal ‘P-Stream’ Shuts Down Following ACE/MPA Pressure

The article reports that P-Stream, a popular pirate streaming website offering free movies and TV shows, has shut down following legal pressure from the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and the anti piracy coalition ACE.

The shutdown was triggered by DMCA subpoenas obtained in a US federal court, which forced companies like Cloudflare and Discord to provide information about users linked to piracy domains, including P-Stream.

Faced with the risk of being identified and potential legal consequences, the site’s operator decided to take the platform offline immediately. The operator stated that even if the site did not directly host illegal content, they could not afford to defend the case in court.

P-Stream had significant reach, attracting millions of monthly visits and becoming one of the more prominent free streaming portals since its launch in 2024, following the shutdown of a similar site, Movie-web.

Despite the shutdown, the underlying code remains publicly available on platforms like GitHub, meaning that similar versions of the service could reappear, continuing the cycle of piracy sites shutting down and resurfacing.

The case illustrates how anti piracy groups increasingly use legal tools such as subpoenas targeting infrastructure providers to identify operators and pressure them into shutting down services.

Overall, the article presents the shutdown as another example of ongoing enforcement efforts against large scale piracy, while also highlighting how difficult it is to permanently eliminate such platforms.
