Police, action against IPTV that harmed thousands of citizens: Controls, seizures and criminal prosecution
The article reports a police operation in Albania targeting illegal IPTV decoder sales and pirate channel distribution. It says the Cybercrime Directorate uncovered a fraud scheme in which several entities allegedly used the DigitAlb brand and broadcast TV programmes without a licence from the Audiovisual Media Authority, causing financial damage to the company. Authorities carried out inspections on seven entities across cities including Shkodër, Lezha, Tirana, Vlora, and Saranda, seizing equipment used for illegal encoding and distribution, along with decoders and other electronic devices. The investigation is continuing for alleged computer fraud and copyright infringement, with those involved facing criminal liability. The piece also warns consumers that these services often fail at critical moments, offer no contract or invoice and no refund route, and may include unsafe apps that put personal data and home networks at risk, while also exposing users to legal risk by participating in an illegal service.
