ACE welcomes French court’s Spliiit ruling
The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) welcomed a ruling by the Paris Judicial Court against subscription sharing platform Spliiit. The court found that Spliiit facilitated the unauthorized commercial resale of streaming service credentials for platforms including Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+, helping create a marketplace for subscription sharing that violated the services’ terms of use. The court ruled that this practice constituted unlawful conduct, including complicity in breaches of contract, unfair competition and trademark infringement. ACE emphasized that the case was not about family password sharing, but about commercial operators profiting from the unauthorized sale of account access. The ruling is seen as a significant victory for streaming platforms and rights holders in their efforts to combat credential abuse, password resale and digital piracy.
